The Problem
I was tired of counting down "3..2...1.." in a discord call, just so we can all sync our start for a movie/tv show. Also, what if someone needs to pause, everyone needs to manually resync afterwards, and thats for EVERY single episode if youre binge watching right now.
If you want to skip, like you are watching a twitch VOD of your favorite esport matches and want to skip forward the pause, aligning this in a full discord channel is almost impossible.

KoalaSync lets you watch together on almost any streaming site out there.
Unlike the competitors, KoalaSync isnt just working on your default main stream streaming sites like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, YT, Twitch etc.
It tries to work on every site that delivers a playable video to you. Especially usefull for people with self hosted media servers like Emby, Plex or Jellyfin.

KoalaSync is 100% free, open source, does not track you, has no ads and no accounts.
I really hate how everything nowadays is a subscription, and full of ads trying to annoy you enough to subscribe...
Since KoalaSync is open source under the MIT license, I hope to make sure that this will always be free and open for everyone to use.
If you don't trust my servers, its very easy to selfhost a relay server for yourself.
The Developer
KoalaSync was built by me, Timo (aka KoalaDev), with theavy assistance of AI coding agents.
I'm a full stack dotNET dev at my dayjob, and at night I love to vibecode to relax, and solve real annoyances of myself.
Everything I build in my free time is free, open source and privacy focused. Also everything it build because I MYSELF have this problem, so I and my friends are also using KoalaSync almost daily. This means this project wont die, I have no monetary interest in it, no expectations.
I made it because I wanted something to watch movies/shows on emby together with my friends.
